I however,if I had written about this. I would not require you to read between the lines. Self centered modernism bred self centered selfishness, materialism, adolescent behavior, and a distorted feminism among many religious orders of Sisters. Interestingly enough all this coincided with the Vatican II Council and the "cultural revolution" of the late '60s and early '70s.<br />Contrast this behavior of the early founders of Sisters of St. Joseph in the US to the "modern" sisters now with NO vocations for 50 years and led by mostly octogenarians in suits.<br />"St. Joseph’s Hospital opened for patients on September 24, 1908 after extensive renovations. The first few years were incredibly hard and the hours were brutal. The sisters rose at 3am to do laundry in the kitchen before seeing to their nursing duties. At the end of their shifts, they ironed before dinner and then attended classes on nursing after. Money was tight. While the sisters made sure the patients had food, they, on several occasions, had nothing more than soup made from potato skins. Gas and electric service was spotty and wards were often lit by candles stuck in potatoes."<br />A loss of faith underpins the demise of most active orders of nuns today. For who without faith and unselfish sacrifice would eat potato skin soup?Bev Sottile-Malonahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04126297418744746988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4736192142832388846.post-48291837318059402822021-06-11T06:22:14.730-07:002021-06-11T06:22:14.730-07:00My great Aunt, Sister Ignatius, was a Nun at St. J...My great Aunt, Sister Ignatius, was a Nun at St. Josephs.
